Even careful and vigilant owners Sibes manage to get out at times. That is why it is very important to have ID tags, rabies tags, tattoos and/or microchips on your Sibe at all times.
If your Sibe has gotten out act quickly! Some shelters only hold animals for a few days before they are euthanized or sold to a research facility.
Some things to do immediately:
Contact the police departments in your surrounding communities to file a lost pet report. This will also help determine which shelter facility your pet would be taken to by animal control officers or private citizens.
Visit shelters and animal control facilities in person!!! It is too easy to make mistakes trying to identify an animal over the phone and some places are too busy to look.
Post flyers with pictures in the area your pet was last seen, go door to door to inform your neighbors, run ads in local papers and check your local cable and radio services for free lost pet ads. Post notices on the internet. Always say there is a reward offered but do not specify an amount. If someone does find your pet even a small amount of money is a great thank you gift.
Drive around your area and beyond where you normally take your Sibe for walks with a passenger who can do the looking to avoid accidents.
Contact local Sibe rescue groups. Some will drive around and help look in shelters.
Continue to check and call the shelters and animal control facilities. A Sibe can run free for weeks!!
