Crystal

By Mike Mitchell

The story and antics of a three year old Sibe.

I purchased Crystal when she was five and a half weeks old, from a petshop. I like to think that I "rescued" her. The very next day we enrolled in puppy obedience classes, then when she was five months old I enrolled her in basic obedience. Crystal did amazingly well, she is highly intelligent, and even though the trainer was at first apprehensive and suggesting that I got a breed that I might have problems with, she constantly bragged to other people visiting her training facility on how well Crystal was trained. I heard her talking one time "see that Husky over there, notice how shes always looking at her owner, most huskies wouldn't do that, that young gentlemen over there constantly works with her".

When Crystal turned one year old, and after going to the trainers for four days a week, Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat, two to four hours a day, the owner asked me if I would be willing to help out, and use Crystal as the demonstration dog during class. I was thrilled, so was Crystal, being the demo dog meant that she was in the middle of the room, and she got the most treats.

Around the time Crystal turned two she stopped going to school, she had learned just about everything she could learn and she wanted to become a canine athlete and focus on her mushing career. She made me, her owner, purchase one of those nifty dog scooters from www.dogscooter.com, a Jones Scooter, Jones Scooters are from Australia. Crystal caught on right away to pulling, she loves it. Sometimes we go to scooter events where we get to enjoy scootering through forests on logging roads with other sleddogs.

Right now Crystal is just being a lazy house dog, she is currently trying to find herself a good companion, so she isn't the only dog around the house. She wants to find a good hard worker, with good work ethic, and who is already a harness trained team dog.

Well, we're off, but wait. Here are some quick anecdotes.

Just yesterday, I had decided to give Crystal a bath. I locked her in her kennel, turned on the hose, got into the kennel and started soaking her down, I grabbed the shampoo and started to lather her up. I turned to grab the hose again but she dashed away and dived into her Dogloo/Igloo. She lays down kicks her feet out, then stands up and SHAKES. Soap suds are falling from the top of the igloo doghouse, do you know how hard those damn Dogloo houses are to clean? They have stupid little locks on the bottom that require a screwdriver to pry them open. I can NEVER get them open. Worst yet, I had JUST cleaned the Dogloo right before deciding to give her a bath because I didn't want her to just get her house dirty again. THE IRONY!!!!!!!!!
