The first party (hereafter referred to as “the owner”) shall render to the second party (hereafter referred to as “the dog”) all the rights and obligations conferred on them. Nothing in this contract will in any way release the owner from any rights of the dog to take any action deemed necessary at common law or restrict or inhibit any actions taken by any canine welfare groups such as the RSPCA, the Royal Canine Council or affiliated bodies.

Words with special meaning;

“Food” shall in no way mean only dry dog food or table scraps. By nature of this contract food shall mean real meat, chicken and bones. Where deemed necessary for the dog’s diet dry food shall NOT mean any second grade mixture but only that dry dog food of premium quality.

“Walk” is to ambulate the dog for at LEAST a period exceeding thirty minutes each day and a minimum off-lead time of twenty minutes each day. The dog reserves the right to specify the amount of ambulation in section 2 and its frequency.

“Shelter” is taken to mean access to the owner’s home with proper heating in winter. The term “dog house” denotes only a fashion accessory for the back yard and does not refer to a place where the dog exclusively lives. Failure to grant access to the owner’s home shall place the owner in breach of this contract.

“Collar” is the item worn by the dog to assist in ambulation. The dog reserves the right to choose the appropriate collar.

“Training” or  “Obedience” refers to that activity whereby the dog agrees to observe certain instructions given by the owner in return for adequate amounts of food (refer to definition above).This contract shall in no way place obligations on the dog as to how quick they respond to certain instructions. It is clearly understood that the dog does not accept any contractual liability in regards to accepting the instructions given to it at all times without fail.

  *Provide affection to the owner (though it is clearly understood that empirical measurement of this is NOT the aim of this contract).
 
  * Watch over the owner’s property. It is understood that  taking any duties as a “watch dog” does not attract the possibility of action being taken against the dog if a successful theft or burglary is carried out while the dog is at the address shown on this contract. The owner understands that matters such as maintaining proper security and insurance is in the responsibility of the owner and NOT the dog.
 
  *undertake the wearing of a collar and reasonable training and obedience as defined above.
 
  * Only go the toilet in areas designated by the owner. To clarify this point the area(s)are as follows;

  · Treatment that would ordinarily be advised by a vet such as routine skin infections or ear problems.

It is a SPECIFIC condition of this agreement that the subject of de-sexing can only form part of a separate contract by the owner and dog, which must be entered into at a later date.
